A curl refresh is a small edit, not another full wash. The aim is to restore shape where sleep or weather has flattened it while keeping the sections that still look good untouched.
Read the curl before adding product
Start with dry hands and look for the few areas that lost definition: the hairline, crown, or ends. If the roots feel oily or the scalp feels uncomfortable, a refresh is not a substitute for washing. On otherwise comfortable hair, mist one section lightly with water or a leave-in product used exactly as directed. Work from the ends upward with your fingers rather than brushing every curl apart.
Shape in small sections
Smooth a pea-sized amount of suitable styling product between the palms, then scrunch or twist only the disrupted sections. Too much product can make the hair stiff or heavy. Let it air-dry or use a diffuser at a setting appropriate to your hair and the tool instructions; resist touching it until it is dry. If you need more volume, lift the roots gently after the set has cooled.
Make tomorrow easier
Note which areas needed attention. A loose protective style or smooth pillowcase at night may reduce friction, but no routine works identically for every texture. Keep a small refresh kit with a spray bottle, clips, and one product you already know your hair tolerates. Reassess after several days instead of layering more and more product.
